The BCI Global Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of business continuity professionals worldwide and are a celebration of some of the amazing talent our industry has to offer. The Awards ceremony took place at our Gala Dinner, which ended day one of the BCM World Conference and Exhibition 2012. The BCI Global Awards are open to all business continuity professionals across the world. Read below to find out about the 2012 winners and click here to see the photo gallery. Winners of the BCI Global Awards 2012
The BCI Global Awards commenced with the Most Effective Recovery of the Year Award, sponsored by Phoenix Shadow-Planner. Paul Gant, Head of Shadow-Planner, presented the Award to bank muscat, the leading financial services provider in Oman. bank muscat received the Award in recognition of an outstanding recovery following a major fire at one of their branches that took place over a weekend. The successful implementation of their Crisis Management and Emergency Management Plans resulted in operations being up and running by Monday morning without incurring any customer downtime or disruption to business as usual.
Public Sector Business Continuity Manager of the Year, sponsored by INONI went to Kevin Smith MBCI, from Surrey County Council, for his inspirational leadership to other BC and Emergency Management Professionals in the Public Sector. Kevin has enjoyed a long-standing career in Emergency Management and has established himself as a high-public profile speaker at national public sector events with active involvement in various local groups and forums, including the Surrey Olympic Resilience Team. The Award was presented by John Robinson, Director of INONI.
Business Continuity Consultant of the Year, sponsored by ClearView was awarded to Filip De Wolf FBCI, who has been a very prominent personality in the BC industry within the Benelux countries for many years. Filip has been actively involved in the development and implementation of BC Programmes for the European Commission (EC), BPost (The Belgium Post), Navartis Pharma and Lombard Insurance International. The Award was presented by Charles Boffin, Chief Executive of ClearView. Frank Kai Fat Chow MBCI was highly commended.
Business Continuity Team of the Year, sponsored by Continuity Shop, was awarded to Team AWE, who implemented a cross-organizational resilience programme that included threat planning; horizon scanning; as well as an incident response across four geographical locations covering more than 2,000 buildings and facilities. Coming from different areas of the business, Team AWE is recognised as true thought leaders by their peers within their sector. The Award was presented by Sam Howard, Director, Continuity Shop. Teams from PwC and Standard Life were highly commended.
Business Continuity Newcomer of the Year, sponsored by SunGard Availability Services was awarded to Samantha Williamson AMBCI for the inspiring way she has embraced business continuity in her short BC career, spanning less than 18 months. Demonstrating some innovative approaches and excellent techniques, Samantha was able to engage with all parts of the business to bring the team together in such a way that she was able to develop a Business Continuity Plan for her organization that met all operational and strategic needs. The Award was presented by Daren Howell, Proposition Marketing Manager, EMEA and India from SunGard Availability Services. Richard Rollings from Sterling Solutions was highly commended.
Business Continuity Personality of the Year Award, sponsored by Send Word Now and unique in that it is the only award decided by public vote, went to Andy Tomkinson MBCI. Andy topped the personality charts for his distinctive style of facilitation and for his ability to convince even the strongest BCM sceptics that good business continuity practice is best practice. He is a great ambassador for the discipline, a highly-regarded mentor and just oozing with personality. The Award was presented by Tony Schmitz, CEO of Send Word Now.
Business Continuity Manager of the Year Award, sponsored by the BSI, was awarded to John Zeppos MBCI, who has shown exceptional judgement and a unique understanding of business continuity management throughout his career. Highly regarded as a thought leader at both national and international level, John’s exceptional ability to handle crises of all kinds was recently put to the test during the recent riots in Athens this year and proven. The Award was presented by Suzanne Fribbins, EMEA Product Marketing Manager at the BSI. Nisar Khan of Kuwait International Bank was highly commended.
The Awards ended with the presentation of a Special Achievement Award from the BCI Board and Global Membership Council (GMC) in recognition of exceptional service and dedication to the BCI. The Award went to someone who has transformed the Institute, bringing it to the forefront of the industry; someone who has a whole list of achievements to her name including, the launch of the BCI Corporate Partnership; the introduction of the Chapters to support the global growth of the Institute and worldwide spread of the discipline; the creation of the BCI Certificate Examination, enabling so many BC professionals to achieve an internationally recognised credential (CBCI) and much more. The Award went of course to Lorraine Darke, Executive Director of the BCI, and a true leader of what is the leading institute in business continuity.
The BCI Global Awards is a key vehicle to raising the profile of the BC industry worldwide and marks an important event in the global business continuity calendar.
